Pelosi: House moving to send impeachment to Senate next week

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday the House will take steps next week to sent articles of impeachment to the Senate for President Donald Trump's Senate trial.

In a letter to her Democratic colleagues, Pelosi said she has asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler to be prepared to bring to the floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

U.S. announces new sanctions on Iran after missile strikes

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration on Friday announced a new wave of sanctions on Iran following this week's missile strikes by the Islamic Republic on U.S. bases in Iraq.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the new sanctions will target eight senior Iranian officials involved in “destabilizing” activities in the Middle East as well as Tuesday's missile strike, which came in retaliation for the U.S.

Winter storm warning in effect for McHenry County, freezing rain, snow in forecast

After an unseasonably warm holiday season, McHenry County residents should expect to see harsh winter weather as they head into the weekend.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a winter storm watch for McHenry, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb and Winnebago counties, which could experience significant snow and ice accumulation beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday.

Johnsburg man sentenced to jail, probation for 2018 DUI crash

A Johnsburg man whose blood alcohol content was nearly four times the legal limit during a 2018 drunken driving crash will serve jail time and probation for seriously injuring a Florida woman in the wreck.

Guy Stedman Jr., 49, was sentenced Thursday to six months in jail and two years of probation on a felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence.

 

2 suspected coyote attacks reported in Chicago

CHICAGO – Authorities on Thursday were on the hunt for coyotes in downtown Chicago after two reported attacks, including one in which passersby said they pulled a wild canine off a 6-year-old boy who was bitten in the head.

The reported attacks come amid an increase in sightings of coyotes in the nation’s third-largest city, including one in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood that briefly prompted the soft lockdown of two schools Thursday, meaning no children were allowed outside.

 

Western leaders declare Iran shot down Ukrainian jetliner

WASHINGTON – It is “highly likely” that Iran shot down the civilian Ukrainian jetliner that crashed Tuesday near Tehran, killing all 176 people on board, U.S., Canadian and British officials declared Thursday. They said the fiery missile strike could well have been a mistake amid rocket launches and high tension throughout the region.

The crash came only a few hours after Iran launched a ballistic attack against Iraqi military bases housing U.S. troops in its violent confrontation with Washington over the U.S.
