After an unseasonably warm holiday season, McHenry County residents should expect to see harsh winter weather as they head into the weekend. The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a winter storm watch for McHenry, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb and Winnebago counties, which could experience significant snow and ice accumulation beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday. The harsh winter weather isn’t atypical this time of year, but residents should be prepared for potential power outages and slick roads, NWS meteorologist Casey Sullivan said. “It’s not unusual to have a storm like this,” Sullivan said.
