WASHINGTON (AP) — When President Donald Trump signed a revamped trade agreement with Mexico and Canada into law Wednesday, he kept a campaign pledge to improve upon a deal that he had long condemned.

His U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement replaces a 26-year-old version that he and other critics said was a job-killing disaster for the United States.

 

District 155 system access 'limited' after ransomware attack, no data breach, officials say

Access to Crystal Lake Community High School District 155’s information systems currently is limited after its computers were infected with ransomware sometime Friday.

District spokeswoman Shannon Podzimek said on Tuesday that after discovering the attack, the district “immediately” launched an investigation with the assistance of a leading forensic firm, which she didn’t identify, and contacted parents to advise them of the attack.

As near as I can tell, fashion sense isn’t something we inherit from our parents.

In my case, this might be a good thing. Still, it is a skill that can be acquired over time. Photos from my childhood show a girl in desperate need of a wardrobe intervention. Of course, when most of one’s wardrobe is hand-me-downs, it’s not as if there is a lot of choice involved. Then again, the ability to put those items together in a pleasing way still sort of eluded me.

Report shows how Crystal Lake police cleared Uber driver in 'suspicious incident'

A police report, obtained by the Northwest Herald through the Freedom of Information Act, shows the steps Crystal Lake police took to confirm a man they were looking for after an allegedly “suspicious” incident at a school bus stop actually was an Uber driver looking for his fare.

The Crystal Lake Police Department began an investigation after a child reported being approached by a man who allegedly told her on Jan. 13 to “get in” his car at Virginia Road and Darlington Lane while waiting for the bus.

 

Police continue searching Illinois River for missing Ottawa woman, belongings found at Starved Rock State Park

The search for a missing Ottawa woman continues on the Illinois River.

Police on Tuesday still were searching for Tina Donovan, 45, of Ottawa, who was reported missing to the Ottawa Police Department on Jan. 14 by a family member. Her vehicle was located at Starved Rock Lodge and personal belongings later were found at Starved Rock State Park.

Conservation Police Sgt. Phil Wire said police continue their search along the Illinois River.

This should be peak season for a 12-room hotel near the train station in the Chinese industrial hub of Wuhan. The Chinese New Year usually brings in plenty of travelers and delivers profits of around $3,000 a month.

Astronaut craves salsa after record 11 months aloft

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – After nearly 11 months in orbit, the astronaut holding the record for the longest spaceflight by a woman can’t wait to dig into some salsa and chips, and swim and surf in the Gulf of Mexico.

NASA astronaut Christina Koch told The Associated Press on Tuesday – her 319th consecutive day in space – that taking part in the first all-female spacewalk was the highlight of her mission. She’s been living on the International Space Station since March and returns to Earth on Feb.

 

Budget deficit to break $1T despite strong economy

WASHINGTON – According to an annual congressional report, the U.S. budget deficit is likely to burst through the symbolic $1 trillion barrier this year despite a healthy economy.

Tuesday’s Congressional Budget Office report follows a burst of new spending last year and the repeal in December of several taxes used to help finance the Affordable Care Act.
