Springfield, teachers OK new five-year labor contract

SPRINGFIELD >> A five-year contract was approved by the school board and ratified by the Springfield Education Association teachers. The parties were nearly a year in negotiations which led to the agreement effective Nov. 17, 2017-June 30, 2022.Among the agreement's major factors are 2.5 percent salary hikes in each year of the contract.

Donations pour in for displaced residents of Barclay Friends

WEST CHESTER >> Donations for victims of the fire at Barclay Friends senior home poured in to a collection center set up at Good Will Fire Company on Sunday. Almost 200 residents of the senior living community were displaced after the building caught on fire late Thursday evening.So many people were turning out with wheelchairs, walkers, clothes and toiletries that volunteers were simply overwhelmed at the outpouring of support from the community.

 

Community Briefs: Chester's Washington Park renovation gets grant

State Rep. Brian Kirkland, D-Delaware, announced the Chester Economic Development Authority will receive a $150,000 grant through Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to renovate Washington Park located in Chester.The grant comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages.

 

Springfield woman plans run against Charlton in 165th

A University of Pennsylvania administrator from Prospect Park will run against state Rep. Alex Charlton, R-165, of Springfield, in a bid to capture that seat.Jennifer O'Mara, 28, of Springfield, said her past plays a large part in her desire to be a state representative as she launched her campaign for the 165th legislative district on Friday night in Radnor.

Pa. OKs five Delco docs as medical marijuana prescribers

The Pennsylvania Department of Health approved five Delaware County practitioners Thursday to begin prescribing medical marijuana to patients once state-licensed dispensaries go live in 2018. Since the application process opened Nov. 1, more than 6,000 patients have registered to participate in the program, and 100 physicians have been approved around the state.
