Hearts & Hands of Mercy hand out toys to 146 children in Chester

CHESTER >> Christmas came a little early for about 150 children in the city Saturday afternoon as Hearts & Hands of Mercy had a toy-giving extravaganza including games, toys, food and even pictures with Santa himself.For the third consecutive year, the team at Hearts & Hands gathered city children, including a family who lost their home to a fire last month, for a holiday party with pizza, hot dogs, Santa and tons of toys at the White Rock Christian Center on West Third Street.

 

Fire chases thousands of shoppers out of Springfield Mall just before Christmas

SPRINGFIELD >> Thousands of holiday shoppers were forced to evacuate the Springfield Mall on the next-to-last day before Christmas, following a fire in the Sbarro restaurant Saturday afternoon. Springfield Fire Company was alerted to the blaze shortly after 3 p.m. Firefighters stretched hoselines, but the grease fire was quickly extinguished before they were needed.

 

Ridley adopts a no-new-taxes budget for 2018

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> There's good news for property owners in the township: There will be no property tax increase in 2018. The real estate millage rate will remain at 9.266 mills to meet a general fund budget of $20,904,245. Under the upcoming budget, the average homeowner with a house assessed at $119,000 will pay $1,102 in real estate taxes.

Brutus is a tiny tyke at 4.5 pounds, 5 years old and a gorgeous blue color. He is just a love bug to people and does get along with other dogs and cats, but is too nervous around kids. Brutus does have some guarding issues with 'his stuff' so it may be better for him to be the only dog in the house and just have play dates with others.

 

Providence Animal Center Pet of the Week: Patches

9-year-old male Domestic Shorthair Meet Patches, the adult orange and white cat who is looking for a home for the holidays. Patches has a very unique pattern on his fur and has bright green eyes. He was rescued from an overcrowded shelter and brought to Providence Animal Center, in Media, where he is relaxing until someone comes to change his life.

 

Providence Animal Center Pet of the Week: Chuck

6-month-old male Mixed Breed Say hello to Mr. Chuck, the sweet young boy who is waiting on what may be the first time he ever has a real home. Chuck is black and white and gives the most awesome kisses ever. Chuck was rescued from a southern overcrowded shelter and brought to Providence Animal Center, where he is waiting on someone to change his life just in time to spend the holidays with them.

This stunningly adorable cocker spaniel is a stunning stand-out with her buff colored, tan and white coat and deep, lively brown eyes that can quite simply melt your heart.
