I stole what was supposed to be the opening line of this column for Sunday's editorial.This one was for our dads.And our moms. And our sisters. And our brothers. And our sons. And our daughters.It's for everyone who bleeds greenI am writing this Friday morning. I do not know who won Super Bowl LII.

 

Students rule in Upper Darby Youth Court class

UPPER DARBY >> Court is in session in Upper Darby middle schools.A judge, bailiff, a jury and court-appointed "counsel" are all present in these courtrooms. What makes these rooms of justice different is that they're run entirely by students. Three eighth-grade classes in Beverly Hills and Drexel Hill middle schools are getting into the swing of things as they start the first year of court sessions in their youth court class, a year-long elective that establishes restorative justice means to deal with violators of the schools' codes of conduct.

No injuries in Colwyn fire

COLWYN >> About 25 to 30 firefighters spent a little more than a half-hour Saturday afternoon knocking out a fire at 300 Main St.Around 2:30 p.m., Darby Fire Company No. 1 responded to an apartment building fire that had started in the interior stairwell, according to company Fire Chief Chris Caruso.

 

Delco Dems call for risk assessment study on Mariner East 2

The Delaware County Democratic Committee issued a statement urging Delaware County Council to conduct an independent risk assessment study of the Mariner East 2 project.Council has agreed to do a study and has been sorting out who and what that study would look like. Last Wednesday, council tabled the study after a consensus wasn't possible regarding two perspectives.

I recently read a commentary by someone who urged us to stop using the word "addict," because it somehow stigmatizes drug users. We were told not to talk about injection sites, because these city-sanctioned alternatives to the street are not just for heroin users. We were asked to limit the use of needle images, because research shows that they trigger a bad reaction in substance abuse sufferers.

 

County police save more than 1,000 lives with Narcan

Delaware County is officially the only county in the state to have its law enforcement officers save over 1,000 lives with the use of the opioid-antagonist drug Naloxone (Narcan).County spokeswoman Emily Harris confirmed Friday that 1,050 overdose reversals have been made since November 2014 when police officers were legally permitted to administer the lifesaving drug under David's Law.

 

Ridley honors outgoing solicitor, served 38 years

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> The commissioners honored retiring township Solicitor Peter Rohana at their recent meeting. He served in that post for 38 years.A Ridley Park native and now a resident of Chester Heights, Rohana worked directly with 30 commissioners, three township managers, three engineers, two tax collectors and numerous employees during his tenure with the township.

BUYER'S REGRET"The Truth" has proven, first of all, how stupid they are by believing that Trump would actually be re-elected. If he doesn't get impeached he'll be forced to resign, which is probably what's going to happen. There aren't enough morons like "The Truth" left in the country to be able to re-elect Donald Trump.
