Garfield National Historic Site hosting Civil War encampment

The National Park Service has announced the return of the annual Civil War encampment weekend at James A. Garfield National Historic Site.It will take place July 20-22 and will be the event's ninth consecutive year, according to a news release.

 

Reynolds Road in Mentor closes briefly due to garage fire

A garage fire briefly closed a portion of Reynolds Road in Mentor on July 10. The Mentor Fire Department received a call of a fire in a detached garage behind a home at 6553 Reynolds Road at 11:54 a.m. No one was injured in the fire. The department is still determining a cause of the fire, but it is believed to have started in a car that was being worked on in the garage.

 

Heritage Club of Northeast Ohio to hear about illegal immigration

The Heritage Club of Northeast Ohio will host its next meeting at 7 p.m., July 12, at the Holiday Inn, 7701 Reynolds Road in Mentor, in the Tyler Room. The featured speaker will be Steve Salvi, founder of the nonprofit group Ohio Jobs and Justice PAC. Salvi will talk about Illegal Immigration and U.

Claims of sex trafficking at Giant Eagle are untrue, Lake County Sheriff's Office says

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said women are not being targeted by sex traffickers at the Giant Eagle on Mentor Avenue in Painesville Township, contrary to claims being made in recent social media postings.In a Facebook post of its own on July 6, the Sheriff's Office said it needed to respond to claims that have been alarming area residents.

 

Boy found facedown in Mentor pool

Public safety officials in Mentor responded to a home on Meadowbrook Drive on July 9 where a boy was found facedown in a swimming pool, the city reports.According to a news release from Mentor Community Relations Manager Ante Logarusic, a call came it at 2:06 p.m. about a 2 1/2-year-old boy being found in the pool at his grandmother's home.
