Qualifying for November election begins Monday

Qualifying for partisan candidates hoping to take up local, state and federal offices in the Nov. 8 general election kicks off Monday in Georgia.
This year, the Senate seat held by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., Chatham County’s local delegation in the Georgia Legislature and a number of Chatham County’s elected posts — including every county commission seat — will be up for grabs.

 

Savannah Human Resources director resigns

In addition to looking for a successor to Savannah City Manager Stephanie Cutter, who announced her pending retirement in January, the city is on the lookout for another upper-level administrator.
The city’s human resources director, Beth Robinson, has resigned, effective Tuesday, after 23 years with the city, including 17 years as the head of the department.

ATLANTA — The CEO of the Feed the Hungry charity became the second candidate Thursday in the special election to complete Rep. Bob Bryant’s term in the House of Representatives.
Bryant, D-Garden City, died Feb. 25. He had already announced he would not run for re-election this year.

 

Effingham may get third, fourth solar farms

Effingham County commissioners have granted conditional uses for two more solar farms, which means the county would have four such facilities in all.
Ryan Sanders of Beltline Energy said his company would like to build the solar farms by the end of the year, one on a 449-acre parcel on Old Louisville Road and the second on a 124-acre parcel on Clyo Kildare Road.
Each farm would have solar arrays that move to follow the sun, and each would use 15 to 20 acres of the tracts, he said.

ATLANTA — Organizers say a massive electronic dance music festival held in suburban Atlanta the past three years will not return in 2016.
TomorrowWorld officials announced the cancellation of the three-day festival on their website Wednesday. The cancellation comes after TomorrowWorld fell under scrutiny last year for messy conditions at the sprawling farmland venue in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia.
