Experts: Belgium often comes up short in preventing attacks

BRUSSELS — Belgium has come up short in its efforts to prevent extremist attacks time and again, experts say — failing to coordinate intelligence, investigate suspects and control its borders.
No country has a perfect record, but Belgium’s is especially bad.
On Tuesday, suicide bombers linked to the Islamic State group detonated their explosives at Brussels Airport and on a subway train, killing 32 people including three of the attackers and injuring some 270.

Army ring lost 2 years ago found miles away on sandy beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Dillon Sprole never thought he'd see his U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ring again after accidentally leaving it in a gas station bathroom in Orlando about two years ago.But Larry Hale found the ring in a pile of sand Monday while using his metal detector on Daytona Beach — at least a few dozen miles from the gas station. How it got there is anyone's guess.The ring has 21-year-old Sprole's name engraved on it. So when Hale found it, his wife searched Facebook and found the man.

 

Severe weather sweeps through Midwest as Denver digs out

DENVER — Severe weather including hail and reports of at least one tornado were reported in the Midwest as other areas began digging out of a spring blizzard that shut down the Denver airport, closed hundreds of miles of roads and left cars stranded along highways on the Plains.
