Pass the pumpkins

Newport Market, now in its 15th year of setting out a truckload of pumpkins on Oct. 1, unloaded more than 16,700 pounds trucked in from Eugene this year in anticipation of Halloween.

 

Celebrating 75 years

The beginning of October marks the Capitol Building's 75th birthday. Rebuilt after a 1935 fire, the current structure was dedicated on Oct. 1, 1938. Designed by New York architecture firm Trowbridge & Livingston, the Salem building's veneer is made of Vermont marble and is the fourth newest capitol in the country.

11 area schools receive donations

Wells Fargo donated $1,000 to each of 11 schools in Central Oregon, allowing the principal of each institution to decide how the money will be spent.The schools to receive donations are Bear Creek Elementary, Ensworth Elementary and Rosland Elementary in Bend-La Pine Schools; Lynch Elementary and Vern Patrick Elementary in the Redmond School District; Paulina Elementary and Ochoco Elementary in the Crook County School District; and Warm Springs Elementary, Buff Intermediate, Madras Primary and Metolius Elementary in the Jefferson County School District.

 

Cyclist breaks leg in crash

A cyclist crossing Northeast Third Street on Monday broke his leg after riding into the path of a pickup truck, according to Bend Police Department.According to police spokesman Lt. Chris Carney: Michael Keener, 43, was northbound either in the bike lane or on the sidewalk when he “darted" across Northeast Third Street near Northeast Marshall Avenue.

 

Hidden camera case update

A man accused of planting a hidden camera in bathrooms entered a not guilty plea in Deschutes County Circuit Court Monday to 25 counts of invasion of privacy and seven counts of attempted invasion of privacy.Richard Eugene Ipsen, 60, of Tualatin, allegedly planted a camera designed to look like an AC adapter in a Starbucks bathroom in Sherwood in June. After the camera was discovered by Sherwood Police, Bend Police executed a search warrant for a house belonging to the Ipsen Family Trust at 2325 N.W. Lolo Drive.

 

State personal income grows

Oregon’s personal income grew about 1.1 percent in the second quarter of this year, over the first quarter, according to figures released Monday by the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis.State personal income serves as a gauge of economic activity.
