Letter: Save Vancouver Lake

I’m a part of Vancouver Lake Rowing Club. My coach recently informed us about this project with The Columbian and I’d really appreciate my and my other teammates’ voices being heard.
Vancouver Lake means a lot to not only the rowing team, but also to the many people we pass by on our runs. I started rowing at Vancouver Lake at the end of summer, and it truly has enabled me to see better parts of life. The view of Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens is impeccable, and one of the greatest beauties of being able to row on Vancouver Lake.

Letter: Writer is right: Drop the ‘Lady’

I support the position expressed by The Columbian’s Tim Martinez in the article “It’s past time to drop ‘Lady’ mascots” (Dec. 30, The Columbian). About 20 years ago, I submitted a letter to the editor that attempted to make the same point. Twenty years later, we still have local schools diminishing female athletes with the subtle but unmistakable message that they are less-than. Thanks to Mr. Martinez for bringing this issue up.
