South Shore YMCA leaders said the two-floor, 118,000 square-foot facility, set to open Dec. 2, is a much-needed upgrade from the old branch, which has been closed since a burst pipe flooded the basement on Sept. 3. Three days after losing Tuesday’s election and saying she would petition its results, Mayor Linda Balzotti announced last night that she will not seek a recount.

Balzotti announced her decision in an emailed statement released sent at 5:05 p.m, on Friday afternoon, bringing to an end to the post-election limbo.
