Passage of Heather’s Law brings solace to family of East Bridgewater woman

Heather’s Law was signed and passed by Gov. Deval Patrick Wednesday. The law makes it so a person charged with or convicted of an offense resulting in the death of a family member would not be allowed custody of the remains of the deceased person without an appeal in court.

 

Lecture series on water issues planned in Norwell

A 10-week lecture series on water-related issues will begin Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the South Shore Natural Science Center Opening the series will be a lecture titled “Adventures in Sustainable Seafood.”

A new sign for an old Quincy landmark

You’ve probably noticed the building more these last few months now, because  of the new sign in front of it.  Situated on the busy Southern Artery, Route 3A, is one of Quincy’s historic buildings known as the Souther Tide Mill.    Here on the Town River sits  a post-and-beam building that is one of only five tide mills left in the United States.  Souther Tide Mill was once the only mill in the country to have retained both a grist mill and saw mill.

 

Foxboro teen who was the face of premature-aging disease dies

Sam Berns, a 17-year-old high school student with the very rare premature-aging disease progeria, died Friday. Sam was the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary “Life According to Sam” that aired on HBO in October. He also appeared on Katie Couric’s talk show “Katie” in the fall, where he was recognized by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
