Sonny Dewaine Tibbs, 39, is charged with three counts of a school employee having sexual intercourse with a student under 19. The former girls' basketball coach admitted to authorities he had sex with a 17-year-old student. He was working as an elementary school physical education teacher in Vina at the time of his arrest.

Police say they received a call about a theft in progress at the Spring Avenue Wal-Mart Sunday night. Employees told the responding officers they saw a man and woman leave the store with stolen electronics. Loss prevention employees followed them outside and were able to detain the woman until police arrived, but the man jumped into a nearby car and drove away.

Young sisters Rebekah and Sarah Brown have gone from critical condition to recovering in the same Birmingham hospital.
