West Milford school board to pay out $1,000 after running afoul of OPRA

According to New Jersey Government Records Council records, the West Milford school board failed to respond to a request for records within the seven-business-day limit in May 2015. That effective denial resulted in a complaint that the district spent around $900 litigating, Board of Education President James Foody said. As a result of the GRC ruling, the district will pay another $1,000 to the complainant, Foody said, adding that the situation could have been avoided. The board consented to the payment on Oct. 24.
