Once strangers, six Jacksonville residents sit face-to-face around the largest table at Three Layers Cafe. Each with their own connection to the Aug. 11 Louisiana flood, they band together as 904 At Your Door to transport donations of supplies to flood victims.
It’s a chain reaction that started when Springfield resident Tiffany McDonald frantically reached out through social media to find her sister, who lives in one of the parishes hit by the flood.

A ceremony to commemorate the 48th anniversary of the Battle of Hue, one of the longest battles of the Vietnam War, will be Sunday at Mayport Naval Station.

Both drivers killed in head-on, wrong way collision in Jacksonville

Both drivers died in a wrong way, head-on collision early Saturday on Interstate 95 south of the Main Street Bridge Exit in Jacksonville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Killed in the crash were Levi Walter, 40, of Vancouver, Wash., and the other driver, Robert Upson, 41, of Jacksonville. The crash about 1:13 a.m. happened as Walter drove his pickup truck south in the northbound outside center lane of I-95, and Upson was driving a passenger van northbound in the same outside lane, the Highway Patrol said.

 

Jacksonville man slain on Erline Drive

Jacksonville police found a man shot to death late Friday in the 1900 block of Erline Drive.
Macarthur Harvey Jr., 27, of Jacksonville was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds about 11 p.m. on the side of the road by police investigating a report of a shooting. Police had no motive or suspect information, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Jacksonville man killed in hit-and-run Saturday

Jacksonville police were searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian early Saturday at Atlantic Boulevard and Acme Street.
Fransico Antunez, whose age was unknown, of Jacksonville, died at the scene after being struck about 5 a.m. by white vehicle traveling west on Atlantic Boulevard. Antunez was crossing Atlantic from south to north when he was hit, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
