Parts of South Ponte Vedra Beach are under a precautionary boil water advisory until further notice following a traffic incident involving a fire hydrant, according to Times-Union news partner First Coast News.
JEA told First Coast News, a vehicle struck a fire hydrant Monday morning at 2901 South Ponte Vedra Boulevard. A boil water advisory was issued at 1:45 a.m. for those living on South Ponte Vedra Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach between 2493-3103.

Dear S.J.: In its day, the bandstand played host to presidents, visiting dignitaries and a legendary figure who “kilt him a b’ar when he was only three.”
Actually, there were several bandstands going back to at least the 1870s. And in later years, they became more of a speech podium than the traditional musical venue.

Jacksonville’s most historic shipwreck may have been damaged by submerged telephone cables draped over or through its 152-year-old wooden bones, according to the man who led its archaeological exploration in the 1980s and ’90s off Mandarin Point.
So Keith Holland is pushing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to get the cables moved from the National Historic Landmark site of the Union steamship Maple Leaf and the thousands of U.S. Army artifacts buried within it.

A Jacksonville man was struck and killed while trying to cross Beach Boulevard at DeSalvo Road on the Southside Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Jose Antonio Irizarry, 57, walked into traffic in the 10900 block of Beach Boulevard and was hit by westbound vehicle about 8:35 p.m. The driver immediately stopped and stayed at the scene then cooperated with investigators. The westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard were closed during the investigation. Police re-opened the lanes after about three hours, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Jacksonville police are investigating the death of an unidentified man found on a grass embankment at the Mathews Bridge in the 500 block of Victoria Street near EverBank Field early Sunday.
Police discovered the victim, described as an adult, about 8:45 a.m. after officers were flagged down by a citizen, said Lt. Travis Cox of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

A man was struck and killed while trying to cross the street Saturday night at Beach Boulevard and Desalvo Road on Jacksonville’s Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police didn’t release the name of the victim or the driver, who officers said immediately stopped and was cooperating with investigators. The collision happened about 8:30 p.m. The westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard were closed during the investigation. Police re-opened the lanes after about three hours, the Sheriff’s Office said.
