It seems Americans are playing a whole lot of "Wii Bowling." Nintendo has announced that they've sold 30 million Wiis in the United States alone.

Nintendo reveals a revamped DS handheld that displays 3D images that can be seen without special glasses.

According to NPD analyst Anita Frazier, the United States install base of Nintendo's portable console should surpass that of the PlayStation 2 "by October or November."

Nintendo announced a new 3D handheld gaming system Tuesday, set to succeed the DS when it is released in Japan in the next year. The new system, called the 3DS, was to be fully unveiled at this year's annual video game conference E3 in Los Angeles this coming June. Details were currently slim, but the announcement stated the console would incorporate 3D technology without the need for players to wear special glasses.

Nintendo is teasing its game lineup for 2010...and announces that Wii remotes will be available in blue and pink with MotionPlus accessories.

That 1.5 million breaks down to more than 550,000 Wii consoles and more than 1 million Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi portables, according to Nintendo's internal estimates.

While we may be nervous about Microsoft's Project Natal branding strategy -- remember, that's just a codename -- the suits in Redmond share no such concern. That's because the Natal project is following Nintendo's lead in more ways than just easy-to-play, motion-based technology.
