German city to evacuate 45,000 as it defuses massive British WWII-era bomb

Officials in Germany’s western city of Koblenz say some 45,000 residents have to be evacuated as officials try to defuse a World War II era bomb discovered in the Rhine river. City officials said Saturday the massive British 1.8 ton bomb will be defused early Sunday, requiring all residents within a radius of about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the bomb site to leave their homes for the day.

 

WWII Bomb Likely Killed 2 Polish Children

Two Polish children have died after a bomb believed to from World War II exploded in a field where they were playing. Police said the 10-year-old boy died immediately after the explosion on Tuesday and his 9-year-old sister died of her injuries in the hospital on Thursday. The children were from the village of Konskowola in eastern Poland.

 

Colorado Woman Finds World War II Grenade in Yard

Joann Martinez said her shovel pulled up the grenade and she briefly picked it up, then set it back down and covered it with a wheelbarrow before calling police.
