Hollywood insiders had a field day on Sunday as the 70th Golden Globes turned into a feast of smart-mouthed humor aimed at two of their favorite subjects: politics and themselves. The night’s big prize, for best motion picture drama, went to “Argo,” a reality-based thriller about the rescue of American diplomats from Iran during its revolution. But the prizes were just half the action, as the room was kept spinning by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, hosts who pulled no punches.

The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards are out and below is the full list. This year, nine films are contending for BEST PICTURE instead of the usual five. Hugo leads all contenders with 11 nominations; The Artist has 10 nominations; Moneyball and War Horse both have 6 noms; The Descendants and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo tie with five noms; The Help and Midnight in Paris have four each.

"The Help" has been served eight Image Award nominations. The adaptation of Kathryn Stockett's best-selling novel about black maids speaking out about their white employers during the civil-rights movement led the 43rd annual NAACP Image Awards nominations Thursday with eight nods in film categories, including outstanding motion picture against "Jumping the Broom," "Pariah," "The First Grader" and "Tower Heist."

During a meeting of the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors on Tuesday night, it was decided that the Best Picture voting system would be changed to allow for anywhere from five to ten nominees in a given year, depending on the quality of films available. The exact number of Best Picture participants won’t be announced until the nominations are revealed in January.
