New technology is giving rise to never-before-possible businesses that are selling products like iPhone cases, doorknobs, perfume bottles and architectural models.

Call the whole 3D craze nothing more than a hyped up gimmick if you will but if that's the case, this is shaping up to be one of the most lucrative gimmicks in recent times.

Movie fans have not outgrown the "Toy Story 3" gang. The animated sequel about toys that come to life leaped to the No. 1 spot with a $109 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek Forever After" bowed even more lightly than some had feared, with the family comedy topping domestic rankings with just $71.3 million in estimated weekend boxoffice. One of the potentially big movies up for grabs at this year's Cannes Film Festival is a 3D relaunch of the 2000 A.D. character Judge Dredd in a new movie directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) from screenplay by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). There was word a few years back that there was a new Judge Dredd movie in development at 20th Century Fox with artist Jock, co-creator of The Losers, being involved in the production art, but with Fox out of the picture, producer Andrew Macdonald's DNA Films has been joined by Indian financier Reliance Big to move the project forward.

Studio says deals sealed with Will Smith and director Barry Sonnenfeld, and Tommy Lee Jones in advanced talks; release date is May 25, 2012.

The hilarity ensues! A second trailer for PIRANHA 3D proves to be more ridiculous than the first. So...Ving Rhames is to PIRANHA 3D what Samuel L. Jackson is to SNAKES ON A PLANE? As funny as it all looks, I don't know if I will actually go and see this in theaters. I think I'd go if someone else paid.

There's nothing I could possibly say that would be as funny as the scenes shown in this trailer.
