Warner Bros.' dark superhero pic "Watchmen" grossed an estimated $55.7 million from 3,611 theaters in its domestic B.O. debut, coming in lower than expected but still scoring the best opening of the year and one of the best showings ever for an R-rated film.

"Watchmen," one of 2009's most eagerly awaited films, has had its world premiere in London on Tuesday, and reviews cast the movie as classy but no classic.

Warner Bros. Pictures has provided us with the full gallery of photos from Watchmen, opening in conventional and IMAX theaters on March 6. Directed by Zack Snyder ( 300 ), the graphic novel adaptation stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson. I was lucky enough to catch WATCHMEN illustrator Dave Gibbons at the Apple Store in Soho this past Friday, for a conversation and Q&A about the famed graphic novel and the upcoming motion picture.

Although I arrived 20 minutes before Gibbons was scheduled to speak, I still had trouble finding a seat--proof of the feverish anticipation for the film and the already rabid built-in fanbase of the graphic novel....

Watchmen director Zack Snyder has debuted a new photo from the graphic novel adaptation at Entertainment Weekly and has launched CruelFilms.com , a site for his production company Cruel and Unusual Films.
