PITTSBURGH — The best meals are also often the simplest meals made with just a handful of everyday, easy-to-find ingredients.
And if they’re both fresh and local, even better.

The pasta with clams in white sauce that Steve Hoffman perfected while living with his family in the small village of Autignac, France, is a classic example.
As recounted in his new memoir, “A Season for That: Lost and Found in the Other Southern France,” every Friday he and his wife, Mary Jo, would trek to the promenade where the fisherman of Valras sold extremely fresh seafood in stalls.

As we tip into the New Year, we food writers are often tasked with putting on paper our predictions for what will be trending. Truly, this used to be a simpler task!
Now, with food becoming more and more global, culinary innovations developing at the speed of light, social media weighing in, chefs feeling more empowered to break traditional rules — or to dig deep into their cultural roots — it’s kind of hard to know where to begin.
Denver area realtors are cautiously optimistic about the housing market in 2025.
After a largely static year, realtors expect stable interest rates, a balanced market, more transactions, and a renewed interest in urban living.
“I don’t think the market will change significantly,” said Craig Harcek with 8z.
“Denver largely has a static population and I don’t think inventory will grow so fast we’ll see a deflation in value.”
Stacie Staub with West+Main agreed.

Mexican airline Aeromexico had the world’s best record for on-time arrivals in 2024, according to an annual ranking released Thursday. Delta Air Lines scored the highest among U. S. carriers despite a computer outage that caused thousands of flight cancellations in July.
Aviation-data provider Cirium said in a report that nearly 87% of Aeromexico flights arrived within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival, a widely used measure of on-time performance among airlines.
Saudia, the flagship carrier of Saudi Arabia, ranked second worldwide, with an on-time performance rate of just over 86%, according to Cirium.
Cirium has rated airlines for timeliness for 16 years.
A massive rockslide in the Wet Mountains covered a southern Colorado highway with thousands of tons of boulders and debris on Sunday, closing roads and challenging state officials tasked with stabilizing the soil.
Colorado 96 and Colorado 165 at McKenzie Junction in Custer County were closed Sunday afternoon after large slabs of earth dislodged and tumbled onto the roadway.
Colorado 165 reopened Thursday but Colorado 96 remains closed between the rockslide and Wetmore, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Local residents captured the slide on video as 911 calls started coming in around 3 p.m., the Custer County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
The area is part of the Ilse fault zone, Colorado Geological Survey geologist Jay Temple said in a video shared by the sheriff’s office.
The fault zone hasn’t been active for nearly a billion years, Temple said, but is still impacted by snow melting through fractures in the earth, causing unstable soil and slides
Cleanup crews had removed more than 7,200 tons of debris from the highway as of Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
State officials will likely need to use dynamite to lower the slope and move it back from the highway to prevent and lessen the impact of future landslides, Temple said.
