GATE CITY — The Scott County Board of Supervisors started what it hopes will be a new tradition this week to honor high-achieving students. During its regular meeting on Wednesday, the BOS presented awards to the Gate City High School boys’ basketball team, which won a state title earlier this year, and Loren Vermillion, a Gate City High School student who won a state forensics competition. “There are students or groups of students that … perform above and beyond the call of duty sometimes, and they represent our county,” said BOS Chairman David Redwine.
