U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is pushing for an insurance upgrade for farmers growing the barley needed by the state's burgeoning craft brewing industry.On Wednesday, Schumer said he has written to federal Agricultural Secretary Purdue urging that the government increase the crop insurance coverage on barley, a step that would better protect farmers should a crop fail or be of inadequate quality.
