A Savannah man whose life plus 25-year prison sentence was voided after the judge faulted the defense attorney’s representation was sentenced Monday to 12 years probation in the 2012 home invasion involving two Savannah College of Art and Design students. Chatham County Superior Court Judge Timothy R. Walmsley imposed the sentence for Raynard Lamar Lexie to two aggravated assault counts, and expressed his disappointment with the way the litigation had progressed. He rejected a request by Lexie’s appellate lawyer, attorney Richard Darden, that the sentence be imposed under the First Offender Act which would have allowed Lexie to remove the case from his record upon successful completion of probation. He also rejected a renewed call by Assistant District Attorney Jenny Guyer that he reject the pre-trial offer. Lexis was convicted by a jury in May 2014 on charges of aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated assault, armed robbery and burglary in the Sept.
