CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Ridgeview’s Bailey Frazier has been named the VHSL Class 2 girls basketball player of the year. Despite being hampered by a hip injury all season, Frazier averaged 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and more than two assists per game for the Wolfpack. The junior, who was All-Region 2D and All-Mountain 7 District player of the year, as well as being named to the Times News All-Southwest Virginia first team, led Ridgeview to the Mountain 7 District tournament championship in a win over Class 2 state champion Wise Central. Wise Central coach Robin Dotson, who led the Lady Warriors to their second straight state championship and their fourth state title in five years, was named the state’s coach of the year. Other first team selections included Wise Central’s Dee Cvetnich, Virginia High’s Taylor Owens and John Battle’s Callie Haderer. Ridgeview’s Nikole Counts, Virginia High’s Lee Amaya and Tazewell’s Dani Janutolo were named to the all-state second team. For the complete teams, see Scoreboard, page 2B.
