The pilot of an experimental plane died Monday afternoon when his plane crashed and exploded upon impact as it approached the Central Colorado Regional Airport outside Buena Vista, about two hours west of Colorado Springs, according to airport manager Jill Van Deel. There were no other fatalities or injuries, she said. The National Transportation Safety Board tweeted that it was investigating the crash and identified the plane as an experimental model. The incident happened about noon as the plane, flying from Leadville to Buena Vista, was attempting to land, Van Deel said.
