A bill that would make significant changes to how the state's civil lawsuit systems works has passed a Senate committee. House Bill 1603 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday with a vote of 6-2 with Sen. Charlie Laster, D-Shawnee, and Sen. Kenneth Corn, D-Poteau voting against it. The bill will no go to the full Senate for consideration. HB 1603 includes several changes to how medical doctors, insurance companies and businesses are sued. Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City, said reforms to state's civil justice system would aid in economic development as well as lower costs that medical doctors have to pay for malpractice insurance.
