By Jack MoneyBusiness writerjmoney@oklahoman.comOMEGA — Improvements are planned for handling water from an ongoing purge of saltwater.The construction of a collection and tank storage system for the water will be paid for initially with money offered to regulators by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board.An approximate cost for that work was not yet known on Tuesday, officials said, but a related order approved by elected members of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission on Friday waived competitive bidding rules to get the system purchased and installed.Friday's order came after regulators voiced a need for a better way to handle the water, and the OERB offered to help.Mindy Stitt, executive director of the board, said its members, most of whom also belong to the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma, are concerned about the issue and want to do what they can to help.“Our board members and the industry just saw an opportunity to assist, to provide the commission some stopgap measures to give it some time to figure out its source and how to take care of it,” Stitt said on Tuesday.“We have worked closely with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, which is where we obtain our abandoned and orphaned sites, for years.Read more on NewsOK.com
