Tropical Storm Sara, once forecast to be a potential threat to Florida or other parts of the U. S. Gulf coast, is now forecast to weaken and eventually dissipate as it crosses Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula.
National Hurricane Center forecasters said Sara will not be a tropical threat after it enters the Gulf of Mexico, though moisture from its remnants will push east toward Florida later next week.

A former Lauderhill police officer was sentenced to four years in prison that he may not have to serve, while his colleague decided to withdraw his no-contest plea in a strange case of sexual police misconduct.
Franklin Hartley, 44, pleaded no contest in August 2023 to unlawful compensation and battery. He was accused of luring two women from a Lauderhill strip club to the parking area behind a Tamarac tire shop in May 2012, then having sex with one of the women in exchange for refusing to write a traffic ticket.
Prosecutors and the victim wanted Hartley to be incarcerated.
