Bookmark or Share- Greenhouse gas emissions targets and reportingIn 2019, the Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act set into law domestic targets to: reduce net emissions of all GHG's other than biogenic methane to zero by 2050; reduce emissions of biogenic methane 24 to 47 per cent below 2017 by 2050, including 10 per cent below 2017 biogenic methane emissions by 2030.
- Government climate-change work programme - Ministry for the EnvironmentA new domestic emissions reduction target by 2050 was set into law in November 2019 with the Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act. The Climate Change Commission was established in December 2019 to: provide advice to Government on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act 2019allow New Zealand to prepare for, and adapt to, the effects of climate change. The changes do four key things: set a new domestic greenhouse gas emissions reduction target for New Zealand to: reduce net emissions of all greenhouse gases (except biogenic methane) to zero by 2050.

The actions in this plan enable us to meet our first emissions budget.
- Establishing the Climate Change Commission - Ministry for the EnvironmentThe Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act 2019 came into force on 14 November 2019. It provides a framework for reducing emissions by 2050 and achieving a climate resilient future. This includes the establishment of an independent Climate Change Commission.
