Bookmark or Share- Differences between Zenit E, EM, 12CD, 12XP, TTL, 122, and 11?E= first of the Zenit series. Has a selenium meter (dead by now in most units) and NO mechanism for automatic diaphragms (you can only use lenses with preset apertures). EM=Same as above but has automatic diaphragm support TTL=Same as above but has stop-down metering (requires a mercury battery however which isn't produced anymore in the EU)
- Is a Zenit 12XP a good starter camera to shoot film?Many years ago Zenit were the ultimate starter SLR if you were desperate to try proper photography on a budget. Many people my age started off with Zenits or Prakticas. Cheap, I paid 55 quid for my TTL in 1980, the EM was about 35 quid - Prakticas started at about 65 - anything Japanese was probably double that.

The set-up is: customised Zenit AZ (wood colour), Paris V3 150 split trucks (50 F, 44 R) with riptide APS bushings (cone/cone F, cannon/cannon R) at 87.5 duro. Wheels are 85mm/75a Caguamas shod with Zealoys ceramic bearings.
- A year ago I offered to make a guide on soviet cameras repair and ...I have a Zenit EM Olympics edition that needs repair, at some point I want to try and revive it to practice on focal plane shutters. Your guide doesn't go as far as I would need to go (I think it at least needs new shutter ribbons), but these guides are always appreciated.
