Bookmark or Share- Fall Foliage 2008 - nativetreesociety.orgFall was beginning to color the East Coast of the United States when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image on October 12, 2008. Orange touches trees in the north and at higher elevations, where temperatures are cooler. Lower elevations are still green.

Swamp Azalea. ( Rhododendron Viscosum ) Very possible. The flowers vary somewhat from white to pink according to Internet sources. The fragrance is very pleasant.

Our Hogsback dramatizes a tight bend the river made thousands of years ago, when it was flowing across a flat plain at the level of the Overlook or above. Once the river cut to the rock, it was entrenched in its bed and couldn't flow elsewhere.
