FWIW - it was Brother Adam who (afaik) first suggested that hobbyists with small apiaries divide them in two, then rear Queens from the half judged as being 'better' (undefined).

Catch the queen in your queen catcher clip, put the clip with the queen in it inside the muff (BOTH hands in the muff => elastic gathers closed around your wrists), open it up on the foam of the plunger and let her majesty walk onto the foam.

All the boxes were white so we went and got different colored marking tape like you flag stuff with. Took about 10-12 inch piece and tucked it under the lid and let it hang down in front of the entrance. We got a good take and little very little drifting.

You can fit 3 frames easily and this is a good compromise between a 2 frame mating nuc and a 5 frame mating nuc. If you leave the mated queen in there for several weeks she'll have more room to lay and properly develop vs. a 2 frame nuc.
