Hazards: High level of volcanic gas—primarily water vapor (H 2 O), and sulfur dioxide (SO 2 )—are emitted during eruptions and can have far-reaching effects downwind.
- About VDAP - Volcano Disaster Assistance Program - USGSVDAP was formed in 1986 in response to the devastating volcanic mudflow triggered by an eruption of Nevado del Ruiz volcano. The mudflow destroyed the city of Armero, Colombia, on the night of November 13, 1985, killing more than 25,000 people in the city and surrounding areas.
