We housed in three WWII uninsulated wooden barracks. Our purpose: monitor all military morse code and voice radio traffic emanating from Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. The U.S. Army had its own detachment of about 100 personnel on Shemya. Life was bleak and very cold on Shemya. More @Wikipedia
