Steven Bochco, American television writer, director, and producer who was the creative force behind several popular series, most of which centered on the lives of police officers or lawyers. His notable shows included Hill Street Blues (1981–87), L.A. Law (1986–94), and NYPD Blue (1993–2005).

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Steven Bochco, a writer and producer known for creating the groundbreaking police drama “Hill Street Blues,” died Sunday. He was 74. A family spokesman says Bochco died in his sleep after a battle with cancer.
