Bookmark or Share- Writing an out of office message: correct use of numerical dates ...In an out of office email message I am trying to express that I will be on vacation from 03 January 2021 through 28 January 2022 and, given that the last day is a Friday, I also want to add a return date (the following Monday). I came up with this: I will be on vacation from 03.01.2022 through 28.01.2022, returning on 31.01.2022.
- ambiguity - Is "until" inclusive or exclusive? - English Language ...I am out of the office until 09/15/2014. He is probably out of the office until 09/15/2014, 8am, so on 09/15/2014 he will be already in the office. In situations where the ambiguity cannot be resolved from the context it's better to specify the time or say whether the day should be included or excluded.
- past tense - I've started or I started - English Language Learners ...Both of those are correct. The past participle expresses a completed action. Since the act of starting to work on the project is already done, it is correct and can be used in your case. However, in this particular case, when you use the past tense, you won't sound natural if you don't provide a timeframe, since the sentence sounds incomplete.

There are many cases where start is acceptable where start off sounds strange, means something different, or is outright wrong. For example: "Start baking the cookies" means to begin the activity of baking the cookies.
- prepositions - Starting in [year] v. starting from [year] - English ..."Beginning in" or "starting in" followed by a year is common and correct for referring to something that occurred over multiple years. "Starting from" is less common, and sounds somewhat non-standard (to my American English ears) for time spans. "Beginning in" and "From" are roughly equivalent in meaning when used to introduce a time span.
