Bookmark or Share- Opinion on Shamrock Keel Drives - BASS BARNThe true downside of them is the lack of speed on a nice day. That was one of the reasons I sold my last one. Nice flat calm days, it was still a 21-22 knot boat, which for fishing around the bay and inlet is no big deal, but if you have aspirations for 30-50 mile runs offshore like I did, it can be an issue.

- The Good The Bad The Ugly on 79 Silverton? - BASS BARNThe Walter V drive is a very good unit.One on of my customers has a 1972 boat with a pair of Walter V drives in it.They both are origional.If you change the oil in the v drive every few years they will last a long time. Do not run the boat with a bent prop or prop shaft.The vibration will cause the v drive to leak oil.

I bought it with a 14x9 prop but it could blow past the 6000 rpm rev limiter even loaded with gear and 4 people. I installed a new merc 14x11 last week.
