Bookmark or Share- Is "I'd've" proper use of the English language?I also use other rarely written contractions, such as should've. And, occasionally, words like wouldn't've, which is another triple contraction. It's interesting that I'm the only person here to use I'd've. I like that contraction.
- "Should be done by" or "should have been done by"?It sounds like the test result should've been done prior to last Wednesday. With something happening prior to a time in the past ( last Wednesday), had is operative term to use; however, it also sounds like the test result still is not done in the present time. Have and has are used to refer to things in the past that are in the present as well.

- Are "should've", "could've", etc. valid short forms of "should have ...Not necessarily; anybody who thinks that's the correct spelling is likely to pronounce it the same way as somebody who thinks that should've or should have is the correct spelling. Spelling is not the same as pronunciation, and while it's true that sometimes some people say the /v/, it's much less likely in any given instance.
