Secession: Like with OTL, the Southern states would secede one by one through conventions and ordinances. Afterwards, 13 Southern states would work together to form the Confederate States of America in 1853, since discussion of a Southern Confederacy dated back as early as Nathaniel Beverly Tucker's book The Partisan in the 1830s.
