Eero Saarinen, Finnish-born American architect who was a leader in exploration and experiment in American architectural design during the 1950s. His best-known works are the Gateway Arch and the TWA terminal at JFK Airport. Saarinen also designed the popular pedestal (tulip) table and chair and the womb chair. More @Wikipedia
