- Succession - The Royal FamilyThe order of succession is the sequence of members of the Royal Family in the order in which they stand in line to the throne. The basis for the succession was determined in the constitutional developments of the seventeenth century, which culminated in the Bill of Rights (1689) and the Act of Settlement (1701).
- Accession - The Royal FamilyThe oath known as the accession declaration - an oath to maintain the established Protestant succession - is normally made at the next State Opening of Parliament. In London the public proclamation of the new Sovereign is first read out at St James's Palace.
- Counsellors of State - The Royal FamilyBy law, Counsellors of State include the Sovereign's spouse and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21. In 2022, the Regency Acts 1937 – 1953 were amended to enable The Princess Royal and The Duke of Edinburgh (then The Earl of Wessex) to serve as Counsellors of State.
- Charities and Patronages - The Royal FamilyThe King and Queen and other members of the Royal Family lend their names and much of their time to many different charities and organisations. Currently, over 1,000 organisations have a member of the Royal Family as their patron or president.
