Bookmark or Share- Does anyone remember the old SoCal Fishing Barges?There was also a barge out of Belmont Shores pier. It was anchored just inside the breakwater at the se end of the Long Beach/L. A. harbor. This was in the late 50's and early 60's. Lots of fun for kids catching bonita and occasional sand bass and halibut. The Matt Walsh was a half day boat out of Pierpoint landing in Long Beach.
- Heading to Oceanside, any nearby places to go crabbing (pier/dock only ...You could try the Old Coast Guard Pier or the docks by the cannery/charter offices in Garibaldi. There are also private docks at the Jetty Fishery Marina at the mouth of Nehalem bay. You can pay to crab off of their docks and rent rings if you need them. I've pulled keepers out of each of these places. Good luck.
- How much rope for Newport crabbing pier? | IFish Fishing ForumFifty feet works, 75 would be better. Make sure they crab on the proper side of the pier with the tides (bay side on incoming, ocean side outgoing). Rings will get swept into the pier with tidal currents and you won't get them back.
- Crabbing Willipa Bay - IFish Fishing ForumIts a fairly short trip from Ocean Park to Tokeland as I take the grand kids a few times a year up there to crab off the pier. Lots of grass this time of year floating in pods with the tide. Some of those grass clumps can shut down even a prop unit, I know as I've more than once had to lift the engine and get the mess clear.
- Crabbing off "A" dock in Astoria???? - IFish Fishing ForumThere's already the jetty rock pier they're using for barging rock to the south jetty. Shame the corps can't just leave it there after completion to be used by the public. I used to beach snare crabs there with good success. If they added a lower floating fishing dock on the side of it, it could be a great fall Salmon fishing pier as well.
