Bookmark or Share- 9. Lane Cove - Peacock SpiderThis was the tell-tale sign of a peacock spider, the way they signal to the female when they are not in direct sight. I also spotted a drab looking female nearby, which these signals were aimed at. The female looked a little different from those of Maratus volans , and was much shier by comparison.
- Size — Peacock SpiderThe black bars are millimetre divisions, so this spider is approximately 1.5 mm in length juveniles (2nd instar) of Maratus jactactus on the same ruler as in previous picture. Distance between two bars is 1 mm.
- Maratus hakea, a new species from southwestern Western AustraliaThe name is a reference to this spider’s habitat, the plant Hakea prostrata. This new species stands out by its large flaps and flamboyant colouration and colour pattern that is reminiscent of tiger sharks or mackerel.
