Polyester braid over polyester filament. This is much less stretchy than paracord, much less slippery, holds knots better. More useful for general lashing and potentially useful for decorative work and crafts.

It's kind of a fun challenge to use what nature provides. My "high-tech", ultra-strong at small diameter cord option is braided Spectra fishing line; I always have some available as part of my hobo reel fishing kit.
