Orvis Beatis Vise - The Fly Tying Bench - Fly Tying
The Orvis Baetis vise was a rotary vise that Renzetti threatened to sue Orvis over so Orvis dropped it and started selling the Renzetti Traveler instead. Quote Share this post
History of the CFO reel - Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques - Fly Tying
Orvis reels have always been among my top favorites. Good dependable reels, especially for the money. Once made in England, I believe the current CFO is made in the US.
Orvis Superfine Glass. - Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques - Fly Tying
Friday I picked up a new Orvis Super Fine Glass 7’ 6” 3 weight. Based on what I’ve read along with video reviews the Super Fine sounded perfect for the 10’ to 20’ wide streams I generally fish. A fly shop employee whose opinion I trust owns the 4-weight version and he has been telling me for a year that if I tried one I would buy it.

The vice pictured is a later version identified by the black jaws. The earlier production models had a chrome jaw. There were some design issues that plagued the vise during early development that were resolved and later, legal/patent issues that ultimately caused it to be dropped and replaced by Orvis in the spring of 1999.
Orvis Rocky Mountain Series - The Lodge - Fly Tying
The Rocky Mountian series was orvis' entry level of rods&reel back about 10 years or so ago. They stopped making the Rocky Mountian series I believe in 2004 or right about that time frame. When they were new the rods sold for around $180-$200 new from Orvis.
