Something that is popular in both the Garcitas and Lavaca is to troll plastic tandem jigs - speck killers, puzzlers, double cochaho's, etc. If you are fishing by yourself, run two rods, one out each side of the boat, about 2x casting distance back.

The best areas I've found are salt and redfish lake on the west side although you will need a kayak or boat to get there. Just down the road is Keller Bay (Olivia) which has much better fishing. There is also multiple areas you can wade fishing from the bank.

Haven't fished there often enough in the winter to know if it's good. But Keller Pocket can be very good for reds and trout when it's happening.
