We know this because 1) GN called the other company who said all that, and 2) there's still a sticker on the motherboard from that other company saying the damage happened ~6 months prior to GN's purchase.

I've had far better luck buying "open box" items from Amazon Warehouse. I can always return the item if I'm not satisfied.

However, they are like most other popular retailers and 3rd parties are allowed to sell on their site. This laptop is shipped and sold by NewEgg though, so that’s not a worry. If you’re concerned if it’s a good deal, you will need to research the exact laptop’s price history.
